A spring Wisconsin snowstorm failed to derail more than 30 framers from attending fall prevention training at Altman Construction Company, Inc. in Wisconsin Rapids on April 11. Provided by the Structural Building Components Association (SBCA) and its National Framers Council (NFC), this was the first class held off-site rather than at SBCA’s offices in Madison, an important step in getting this valuable information out to more framers. Reactions to the course, which is made possible by the Susan Harwood Training Grant through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), were positive.
As ICC states the ANSI mark of distinction provides building officials what they need to know to approve an ANSI accredited agency’s technical evaluation report. Why? ANSI demonstrated that each accredited agency has the necessary competencies and has undergone a rigorous accreditation process as defined in IBC chapter 17. Accordingly, the agency meets all code compliance regulations.
Simpson Strong-Tie, the leader in engineered structural connectors and building solutions, today announced the release of the BVLZ brick veneer ledger connector kit, a code-compliant, tested solution for attaching decks to wood-framed homes that have a brick or masonry veneer exterior covering.

One split second is all it takes for a life to be changed forever or taken away by a workplace accident. Each year, close to 9,000 people are killed on the job across the U.S. and Europe; no doubt all these workplaces had safety protocols in place, but clearly more could have been done to prevent this loss.
Each year, employers are required to post a copy of OSHA Form 300A from Feb. 1 through April 30. The summary must be displayed in a common area where notices to workers are usually posted. Businesses with 10 or fewer workers and those in certain low-hazard industries are exempt from OSHA recordkeeping and posting requirements.
What does a component manufacturer do when they deliver their structural building components for a 70,000 sq. ft. condo building, and the contracted framer doesn’t show up? For Gene Frogale, who experienced this problem in 2018, he quickly reached out to Kenny Shifflett, a fellow member of the Structural Building Components Association (SBCA), past president of the National Framers Council (NFC), and owner of Ace Carpentry in Manassas, Virginia.
Falls continue to be the leading cause of death for construction workers. OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down is May 6-10, 2019. Join safety-focused framers around the country to raise awareness about common fall hazards in construction, and how falls from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs can be prevented.
The key concept for the WTO evaluation is defining what is a “fair comparison”. The USDOC used the “Differential Pricing Methodology” to examine whether the export prices were set in a manner that would be defined as unfair.
