Fall Protection

As falls continue to be the leading cause of death for construction workers, the Stand-Down helps to highlight the importance of fall protection and raise awareness about common fall hazards and fall prevention best practices.

Super Anchor Safety is excited to announce the launch of a revolutionary Fall Protection System that Installs with No Fasteners.

The Structural Building Components Association (SBCA) and its National Framers Council (NFC) are pleased to announce confirmation of approval for a Susan Harwood Training Grant through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Susan Harwood Training Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations to help fund the development of training and education courses for workers and employers exposed to workplace safety and health hazards.

"Work safely. Go home Safely." An expanded version of NFC’s FrameSAFE Safety Manual template was rolled out  this spring and is taking hold in the marketplace.

Over the course of the last 18 months, FastenMaster worked with NFC member Scott Stevens and his staff at ModuTech to field test and provide feedback on FrameFAST, a product designed facilitate the connection of top plates to roof trusses from the ground.

Chief Administrative Law Judge Covette Rooney recently upheld citations and penalties for Flintlock Construction Service, finding the company had knowledge of safety hazards at a 23-story hotel project in Manhattan, New York.

Salvatore Schirripa, a Bensonhurst, N.Y., construction company owner, has been indicted on manslaughter and other charges following the April 2015 death of Vidal Sanchez-Ramon, his employee at a Coney Island work site. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison.

Fall protection and safety standards are the bridge between completing a job and going home uninjured at the end of the day.

Whether increasing fines can force a change in industry safety practices remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure—the cost of failing to comply with OSHA standards is about to rise.

  • When there’s no effective tie-off point for a building, framers have to use a job-specific best practices approach.
  • Both Hull and Shifflett agree it is in the best interest of component manufacturers to work with framers to create best practice approaches to fall protection.
  • The long-term goal is to host an online database that GCs and framing teams can visit to know who in their industry participates, trains and follows the same safety guidelines.
