As falls continue to be the leading cause of death for construction workers, the Stand-Down helps to highlight the importance of fall protection and raise awareness about common fall hazards and fall prevention best practices.

Being inducted into the Trussway Hall of Fame is a big deal. Founded in 1972, Trussway has six manufacturing locations spread across the U.S. and services single-family, multi-family, and light-commercial construction segments.

When looking at opportunities to increase structural component production capacity through equipment automation, one of the primary examples many point to is the automotive industry. Component manufacturers (CMs) and lumber producers had a chance to tour one of the nation’s most advanced vehicle manufacturing facilities run by Nissan in Smyrna, Tennessee, as part of the 2019 MSR Workshop in April. Plant tours like these give everyone a fresh perspective on production issues. 

Students at the New Jersey Institute of Technology received a gift recently from the Mid-Atlantic Structural Building Components Association, a chapter of SBCA. Their instructor, Frank Golon Ph.D., P.E., reached out to Keith Myers (Woodhaven Lumber) requesting BCSI handbooks as part of his class curriculum.

Advantage Truss Company in Hollister, California, had a record year in 2018. They supply exclusively to custom home builders in their market and bid over 1,000 homes last year for the first time in their company’s history (they completed 625 homes). As part of their outreach to the surrounding community, they participate in a local “Lights on Christmas Parade.” Their 2018 entry got a lot of attention.

As we enter 2019, we forge our hopes and dreams for the coming year while recalling our fondest memories of the 2018.

Being a “one-hit wonder” in the music industry is not necessarily something to aspire to, but in the SBCA booth at BCMC this year, several CMs and suppliers strove to earn that very title. 

At the SBCA Open Quarterly Meeting (OQM) in August, component manufacturer and supplier members broke into seven teams and took part in a race-to-the-finish scavenger hunt.
