The concept of incident reporting has been around for quite some time now. Though it was designed to improve safety in the workplace, there are still a number of reasons employees refuse to comply avoid this. Management and frontline workers need to understand why reporting an incident makes a big difference in the safety, efficiency and overall well-being of the organization and its members. 

A spring Wisconsin snowstorm failed to derail more than 30 framers from attending fall prevention training at Altman Construction Company, Inc. in Wisconsin Rapids on April 11. Provided by the Structural Building Components Association (SBCA) and its National Framers Council (NFC), this was the first class held off-site rather than at SBCA’s offices in Madison, an important step in getting this valuable information out to more framers. Reactions to the course, which is made possible by the Susan Harwood Training Grant through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), were positive.

One split second is all it takes for a life to be changed forever or taken away by a workplace accident. Each year, close to 9,000 people are killed on the job across the U.S. and Europe; no doubt all these workplaces had safety protocols in place, but clearly more could have been done to prevent this loss. 

Each year, employers are required to post a copy of OSHA Form 300A from Feb. 1 through April 30. The summary must be displayed in a common area where notices to workers are usually posted. Businesses with 10 or fewer workers and those in certain low-hazard industries are exempt from OSHA recordkeeping and posting requirements.
