Parting Shots

On November 13, 2017, roof trusses donated by the Truss Manufacturers Association of Texas (TMAT) were installed on a house in San Antonio, Texas. In February, the keys will go to U.S. Army SPC Thomas Brinch and his family. This mortgage-free home is being built by Century Communities in partnership with Operation Finally Home (OFH), an organization that constructs homes for wounded veterans.

SBCA has been partnering with OFH since 2013, but this past year was the first in which SBCA chapters and members across the country engaged directly with OFH on projects in their local markets. In addition to TMAT, SBCA of the Capital Area is currently working with OFH to build a home in northern Virginia. The Wisconsin Truss Manufacturers Association donated components to a house that was completed in June 2017. The Wisconsin chapter is also planning to donate components to another house that will be completed in May 2018. In addition, there are currently nine OFH projects underway in North and South Carolina. Members of the SBCA Carolinas chapter recently got together to divvy up those projects and lend a hand in each of them.

If you’re ready to contribute to an OFH project, drop a line to editor@sbcmag.info for details on getting involved and giving back in your market.
