Construction has been slow compared to other industries to adopt technology, but it’s starting to catch up as technology gets more sophisticated to accommodate the industry’s unique needs.
Heartland Truss of Plattsburg, Missouri, has been providing truss education to local building officials, builders, and framers for years, thanks in large part to the work of SBCA Missouri chapter president and Heartland truss salesman Jasper Diedriks.
Since 2010, Keith Myers, truss and panel general manager at Woodhaven Lumberhas been giving presentations and plant tours to building officials through Rutgers University. Over that time, Keith estimates he’s had over 225 students walk through his facility.
Home Innovation Research Labs conducted a survey of home builders in December. Respondents indicated they are continuing to increase their use of off-site construction, and plan to rely on it even more in 2019.
