Where to Find the Latest Building Codes Online

Different towns, states, and countries have different rules and regulations when it comes to buildings. Keeping track of all the different codes can be a difficult task, especially when one is relying on printed code books that quickly become outdated. Fortunately, there are a few very good online resources one can use to find out which version of what code each jurisdiction is using, and what the requirements of those codes entail.
The most obvious place to start is the International Code Commission (ICC), which drafts the model code. Their online code library can be found here: https://codes.iccsafe.org/public/collections/i-codes.
There’s also a new online code database called “UpCodes,” which includes the current code requirements in 40 of the 50 states. The online UpCodes database can be accessed here: https://up.codes/codes/general.
UpCodes also has developed a mobile-friendly app, which can be found here: https://up.codes/features.
