On March 1, 2016, the Truss Plate Institute (TPI) made available on their website a free read-only version of the ANSI/TPI 1-2014 Standard, "National Design Standard for Metal Plate Connected Wood Truss Construction" (www.tpinst.org/technical-downloads). The online read-only version includes only the Standard portion of the publication and does not include the Commentary or Appendices.  The complete publication remains available for purchase both in hard copy or in a downloadable electronic form and comes with the Commentary & Appendices and is available at the TPI Online Store (www.tpinst.org/tpi-store).

The ANSI/TPI 1 Standard establishes minimum requirements for the design and construction of metal plate connected wood trusses and describes the materials used in a truss, both lumber and steel, and design procedures for truss members and joints. Methods for evaluating the metal connector plates, manufacturing quality assurance, and responsibilities in the design process involving metal plate connected wood trusses are also contained in the Standard.  The Standard has been in use in the industry in earlier versions since the early 1960’s.  Updates and revisions have regularly occurred to keep pace with the ever changing needs and innovations of the industry.

By offering the free read-only version of the ANSI/TPI 1 Standard online, the Truss Plate Institute hopes to gain better awareness of critical information included in the publication.
