Again this year during BCMC week, Jess Lohse, President of Rocky Mountain Truss Co. in Havre MT, provided day-to-day updates from the show.
Friday marked the conclusion of BCMC 2012 in New Orleans. Mark Vitner started the day with his economic forecast for the next year. Mark noted that the multi-family market looks to be very strong over the next 12 months. Next year will be a much improved year for housing starts, great news for component manufacturers.
After the economic forecast, attendees returned to the show floor to visit with exhibitors. I had a lot of great conversations with suppliers and component manufacturers alike. One of the hidden benefits of BCMC, year after year, is the interactions between CMs and others in the industry. I always learn from other attendees and have developed many friendships that I enjoy revisiting at BCMC.
This year marked a lot of change with the format for the show, which I can assure you were made with the best intentions. However, if there was something you didn't like or would like to see different for next year, please feel free to email me (jess@rockymountaintruss.net) or any of the other members of the BCMC Committee. We want to make the conference the best it can be in order to serve the attendees and exhibitors. I would also like to hear from you if you chose not to attend and what we can do to entice you to attend next year. As housing rebounds, the market for our products will increase, and improving our operations will be imperative in 2013 and beyond.
In the coming months, look for webinars on some of the educational sessions from BCMC 2012. We are hoping to reach people who were not able to make it to New Orleans, while offering a refresher to those who attended but may not have been able to make it to that session or enjoyed a session so much they want an encore.
