Madison, WI – Tom Manenti, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MiTek Industries, Inc., received the 2013 SBC Industry Leadership Award. The award honors an individual who has helped nurture, support and grow the structural components industry.
“Character, leadership, mentor and friend, those are the four words that best describe Tom,” said Don Groom, General Manager of Panel Truss Texas, Inc., and a longtime friend of Manenti who introduced the award at the SBCA annual meeting at BCMC in San Antonio, Texas. “It is nearly impossible to list all the ways in which his leadership has impacted this industry in a positive way.”
Manenti began his career with MiTek in 1977 as a district sales manager and became President of MiTek’s U.S. business operations in 2004. After a brief hiatus from the industry in 2008, Manenti rejoined MiTek in 2009. He was a member of the SBCA’s Board of Directors for many years, was inducted into the SBCA Hall of Fame in 2000, and received the Dick Bowman Industry Enthusiast Award in 2006.
”My old friend, mentor and an incredible leader himself, Mike Conforti, used to tell me that as a leader, if you consistently apply what he called “the rule of reason,” you will never go wrong,” said Manenti. “I strive to live up to that every day.”
Indeed, the consensus of his peers is that Manenti’s words and actions reflect his philosophy. “You can always trust that he will tell you the truth and always has your best interest in mind, both in business and on a personal level,” said Groom. “Further, he leads by example and has, in turn, developed a number of great leaders in our industry over the years.”
In accepting the award, Manenti said, “I’m honored to be selected to receive the SBC Industry Leadership Award for 2013. To be named in such prestigious company as Abner Yoder, Charlie Vaccaro, Ray Noonan, Don Hershey, Dwight Hikel, Ken Cloyd and Rick Parrino is humbling beyond description.”
